A short conversation between myself and four-and-a-half year old Boy. Setting: at the kitchen snack table after kinder one recent afternoon.
Boy: Josephine at school, when her dad comes to pick her up, he doesn’t call her Josephine.
He calls her something else.
Me: What does he call her.
Boy: He calls her Jay Jay.
Me: Oh. Well, that must be his nickname for her I suppose.
Boy: Can I have a nickname that you call me?
Me: Of course, what would you like your nickname to be? You already have a few. I call you darling sometimes, don’t I?
Boy: I’d like my nickname to be Alice.
